Parent Teacher Conference

We had Cooper’s parent teacher conference this week.  It is odd to be on the other side of the table but always interesting to compare perspectives.  We were told Cooper is doing really well.  He is on par with the rest of the kids and ahead in many areas.  The teacher informed us that is good because he is the youngest child in the class and most are on to Kindergarten next year and he still has a year of 4K left to go.  We felt pretty good about that considering he is our first and we have nothing to compare him to. IMG_6449 He knows all of his colors and most of his shapes, we need to work on octagon and crescent.  He can recognize and represent the letters A-I with sounds so now we need to work on the rest of the alphabet.  He can do basic addition and subtraction with unifix cubes.  He can count well but mixes up 7 and 11 at times.  We need to work on holding the pencil properly but he has made huge gains in writing his full name out. The teacher said his strength is his vocabulary and higher thinking skills – she said he is always talking…non-stop and questioning things.  We couldn’t agree more, he loves to talk!  She said socially he is doing well and uses words to work through conflict.  He needs to work on self-control during carpet time…he gets antsy and can distract others.  Overall it went well.  We are so happy that Cooper loves to go to school everyday, that sure makes life easy for us!
