Fish Tales

We had an exciting weekend of fishing at the cabin.  Uba had some entertaining fights with small mouth bass and brought them in while they were fighting and jumping in the air.  Grandpa caught a 39” Muskie on Uba’s pole and had to bring it in and net it all by himself. Casey, Cooper and I found a great perch hole where the fish were biting every minute or two and we couldn’t keep up with our sinking bobbers.

One fish tale stands out though, it was amazing. Imagine this – Grandpa is standing on the pier looking out of the lake. Cooper has his little kiddie pole resting on the pier and it is fitted with a bobber and a worm floating about 10 feet away from the pier.  With a quick jolt Cooper’s pole is thrust into the lake. Expletives fly and Grandpa jumps into the lake to save the pole, he can feel a large fish fighting on the other end. Uba and I begin to scream as Grandpa fights the fish on the pole which is now bent nearly in half.  Cooper is screaming that he will rescue the fish and is jumping in the lake by the beach.  Casey grabs the net and hurtles into the lake.  He blindly follows the line in the dark water while Grandpa walks the fish in and out of the depth because the little kiddie pole isn’t fitted with a drag. The fight continues for about 5 minutes and it seems inevitable that the line will snap.  Finally finding the fish Casey nets it and brings it to shore.coop fish We all run over to see a 18-19” small mouth bass staring back at us.  Way too much fish for that pole. coop fish 2 We laughed about that adventure all weekend long and it made for a great fish tale.
