Sew Him Up Doc

We were enjoying our freshly caught lunch just before we planned to head home from the cabin.  We were all gathered in the kitchen enjoying our feast when Cooper suddenly fell backwards in his stool.  He had been pushing his feet against the counter and toppled backward.  Casey tried to grab him and the attempt swung him to the side a little and as he fell he hit the neighboring stool on the way down.  The gash, although small, was deep and bled immediately. I knew, I think we all knew, right away after seeing it that it would require stitches.  Sure enough, one trip the Eagle River Memorial Hospital and Cooper had earned himself three stitches.  He was very brave considering that it was very painful for him and he had to literally watch the injections and stitches happening right above his eye. The fact that he has stitches doesn’t really bother me but it will scar and I have been surprisingly upset about that. When I had Cooper I remember marveling over how perfect he was. Untouched by toxins or chemicals, unharmed by the world around him and now suddenly a scar. On his face. Forever. I hate it.  The doctor said it would  be small and there were things I could do the minimize the scarring but it would scar because of the thin skin there above his eye. IMG_4486Three seems too young to have a scar forever, doesn’t it?
