Cooper finished his swim lessons this week. Casey and I were so proud of him, he did fantastic. Little Strokes is far more serious about swimming than the YMCA, there is no splashing about or singing time – they are all about getting kids ready for competitive swim – I mean they have 5 year olds doing the butterfly proficiently, it’s crazy! We were nervous about Cooper because it was his first class without us but he was awesome. They advance you through the ranks by giving you a colored wristband. For the first set of three you start at blue and then advance to green and then orange. Cooper’s teacher told us that Cooper was doing so well for his age and was so comfortable in the water that they were skipping green and advancing him right to orange. Way to go Cooper! The last lesson was pretty hilarious because it was kind of experimental. Just for fun the teacher was having him try to dive and working on the front crawl with his face under the water. Cooper was a little unsure of everything but was willing to give it a shot. Here is a BIG jump in!
Normally Cooper swims all the way to the bottom of the pool to get the rings (with the teacher holding onto him) but today he wouldn’t do it. The poor kid who goes after him can hardly do it because energetic Coop is bouncing all over getting into his space.
Here is a short clip of the experimental lesson - Cooper trying to dive and he just isn’t getting the hang of it. His little body isn’t quite sure what to do.
Brecken watched very intently.
